Welcome. As a member of Extras NI you are a representative of Extras NI.
You are paying a non refundable annual registration fee of £35 which includes your professionally taken photograph and your personal profile being added to our online database that will be viewable by productions and used by ourselves for any casting opportunities for the period of 12 months from your date of joining. We shall put you forward for any casting briefs that we receive that you and your experience are suitable for. We cannot guarantee that you will be selected for any specific production or any production whatsoever, as each production comes to us with specific requirements that we must deliver, however, we will endeavour to find a role that suits you.
On our website, only your photo and bite size profile are publicly viewable. Your surname and contact details are not for public use and are viewable only by Extras NI staff in a private and protected area of the website. These details will only be shared with productions and their staff once you have accepted a job on that production.
You must have a national insurance number in order to work for Extras NI and be legally entitled to work in this country. National Insurance contributions are taken on your behalf unless you are under 16 or are NI exempt (you must have proof of this).
On jobs that we obtain, negotiate and co-ordinate, we take 15% commission. We will endeavor to quote the fee offered after this commission has been deducted when offering you any work.
If your contact details (phone number, address, email) change at any time, it is your responsibility to inform us of any change immediately – failure in providing this information and any changes to it throughout your membership may result in you losing work.
If your personal appearance changes drastically (hair colour, deep tan, hair style, etc) at any time, it is your responsibility to inform us – failure to do so may result in you losing work or being sent home from a job if you look drastically different from the information we have provided the production of you.
If you have been booked for a job, do not change your appearance in anyway between the time of booking and the time of filming and until all filming of that production has been completed.
When contacted by Extras NI and offered a job, before you confirm your availability and acceptance of the job, please be 100% certain that you can work on the date/s specified before accepting a fully confirmed job. It is perfectly fine for you to not accept a job if you are not available or it does not suit for whatever reason. However, if you accept a job and we have booked you, we will then contact you the day before the shoot with the details of location and call times. We do not have this information in advance.
If you become unavailable for a booked job for any reason, YOU MUST LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY.
When someone from Extras NI calls you to give you the information for a shoot, make sure you write it down during the phone call.
When booked for a job, always make sure you know the SHOOT DAY, your CALL TIME and the LOCATION you are going to. If you do not know the location, ask for DIRECTIONS and figure out HOW you are going to get there and HOW LONG it is going to take you THE DAY BEFORE. If you are driving, make sure you know where you are going to park. Parking tickets will never be paid for by a production or by Extras NI.
Make sure to have our mobile phone number with you and in the event of an emergency, should you get lost or be delayed - you must call if you are going to be MORE THAN 10 MINS LATE.
Make sure you know what clothing and props you are required to bring and any hair or make up requirements you have been asked to do in advance – DO NOT FORGET THEM.
Most filming, like any other job, takes place during the day, during the week. Start times can regularly be at 7am and finish at 7pm, depending on the job. Weekend work is also frequent.
Depending on what type of job you are booked for, when you are called or what time you will be finished for the day, you will sometimes receive breakfast and/or lunch.
NEVER BE LATE & NEVER BE RUDE.
NEVER LOOK AT THE CAMERA or even in its direction when filming.
DON'T OVERACT – ACT NATURALLY.
Talking to the movie stars, asking for autographs, taking photographs (on cameras or mobile phones) or using recording equipment of any kind is strictly NOT PERMITTED and can result in you being instantly dismissed without pay.
Bringing a friend or a family member along is NOT PERMITTED.
Talking to the local media and local press is also NOT PERMITTED by the productions you may work on – on signing your release form/payment voucher, you are also entering into a confidentiality agreement with that production.
NO MOBILE PHONES – they must be switched off and NO PERSONAL BELONGINGS are to be brought onto set.
NO SMOKING on set – there will be a designated area.
Do not take UNSCHEDULED BREAKS. Once filming begins, it may not be possible to release you off set until the next break. So, please go to bathroom etc. in plenty of time before you are called for set.
DO NOT LEAVE THE SET OR LOCATION until you have been told officially by an assistant director that you have been 'WRAPPED' (finished for the day) and you have returned your fully completed payment voucher and you have returned any costume or props that have been provided for you promptly and in good condition. The Company will hold you responsible for any loss and/or damage to wardrobe and other articles loaned to you (except for fair wear and tear).
Make SIGNING IN the first thing you do when you arrive at the shoot with the assistant director or extras co-ordinator who is expecting you. Otherwise they may not be aware that you have arrived and will be looking for you.
Bring your NATIONAL INSURANCE number.
Fill out all the copies given to you of your ARTIST RELEASE FORM/ PAYMENT VOUCHER CLEARLY & FULLY including your NI number, your postcode and in what name you want your cheque made payable to and keep them safe until the end of the day when you are 'wrapped' and you hand it back – it is very important as this is how you get paid. Payment normally takes between 4-6 weeks.
LISTEN – you will be given directions by members of the assistant directors' team in relation to where you should go and what you should do on the day. CLARIFY anything you do not understand.
Be QUIET on set - the film crew need to work & communicate without interruption.
UNDERSTAND your own action in relation to the main action and be prepared to do it repeatedly for "continuity" (i.e. that you always walk on the same cue to the same place, lift a glass with the same hand, carry a prop on the same side, etc) until the perfect shot is achieved.
KNOW YOUR 1st POSITION (your starting place). On 'CUT' – 'RESET' to your 1st position immediately.
Remain in the area allocated to you to relax in between filming and tell a member of the assistant directors' team looking after you when you need a TOILET break – they need to know where you are at all times, and should not have to look for you when you are needed on set.
BRING a book, magazines or newspapers to amuse yourself while you are waiting around between set ups.
PREPARE for the weather – whether it is to keep yourself warm, dry or cool.
Be aware of your own HEALTH & SAFETY whilst on location and on set in regards to the equipment (lights, cables, props, etc) that is surrounding you. If any accident occurs, inform an assistant director immediately.
Be responsible for any personal belongings – none of which should be brought to set. Avoid bringing any valuables.
ENJOY THE DAY
We operate a 3 STRIKES & YOU ARE OUT POLICY:
Booked extras showing up for a job, showing up ON TIME and being friendly and easy to work with effects our company's reputation – therefore if you are repeatedly late for jobs or fail to turn up without a good explanation or we receive negative feedback – this could result in you being removed from our online database without refund.
If you turn up for a job or whilst on a job are under the influence of alcohol or illegal drug substances, this will result in instant dismissal and you will be removed from our online database without refund.
CANCELLATIONS – schedule changes often occur due to whether or time constraints – this may mean your filming day can be postponed or cancelled and can sometimes be at very short notice, even the night before.
If you are a CHILD CHAPERONE - the children you are chaperoning are your responsibility throughout the day. Please keep them with you at all times when they are not 'on camera'. Make sure they are happy and understand any instructions being given to them. It is also your responsibility to get their meals and drinks. And please make sure to bring anything they might need throughout the day to keep them occupied and content. Avoid computer games, as they will not be replaced if they go missing.
Do not hound us at Extras NI for work by phone or by email, rest assured we will contact you as soon as something suitable for you comes up.
